March 18: Job Descriptions and Compensation
From the type of candidates you attract, to the expectations applicants have for compensation and opportunity, to the demands that you place on each of your people, job descriptions are a foundation of your organization and its success. How you define the parameters of each role, whether for a current member of your staff, a newly created position that you fill from within, or what you look for in a new hire, job descriptions and compensation must be handled right.

April 15: Performance Management
The right goals, responsibilities, expectations and encouragement can bring out the best in a staff member, if handled correctly. Learn vital keys to performance management that will keep your employees challenged, achieving, and happy, as individuals and a team.

May 20: Exit Strategies
No one ever wants to have to let an employee go, but there are times when no other options are available. It will likely be one of the most difficult tasks you ever do; and if done poorly, it can be a highly unpleasant experience and leave your organization open to legal action. Done right, you can treat employees fairly, help protect morale, minimize the pain, and avoid legal concerns.

The Northeast-East Central Colorado SBDC is excited to announce and welcome four new business counselors to its staff.  The merger between the Greeley/Weld and Fort Morgan offices earlier this year created an opportunity to expand the SBDC's involvement in Northeastern Colorado. The SBDC is extending small business services in multiple regions as well as hours in each community. These areas include Burlington, Holyoke, Julesburg, and Limon. As reported by Executive Director Dick Pickett, "With such a large territory, it is difficult to effectively service the needs of small businesses in outlying communities from two offices in Greeley and Fort Morgan. It is our goal that no business drives more than 45 minutes to meet with a SBDC counselor. There will be several additional counselor locations added in the next month, including Sterling and Yuma".
The new counselors include:
Nici Bishop, Executive Director of the Phillips County Economic Development Corporation
Trish Stever, Executive Director of the Sedgwick County Economic Development Corporation
Robert Todd, Retired, Previous President of the Bank of Straton
Patricia Vice, Executive Director of the Lincoln County Economic Development Corporation

These counselors have each committed two days per month to the SBDC in 2010 and will focus their hours on counseling small businesses in the community through start-up and growth processes. Read more about the new staff members at www.neeccosbdc.org/about-us/sbdc-staff/
